Review: If there is one thing going for him is Upside Down, his paintings. Goodness gracious, the film is nice to look at. We saw hints of a visual style similar to the remake of Total Recall and Inception, but the filmmakers milk the unique view of the upside in all the boxes as possible. Sometimes, visual puns can be a bit "too disgusting to the point of getting silly, but all in all, representing the dual gravity really creative ideas. Of course, with such fantasy films that work within their own set of rules, usually you have to ignore the incredible and just go along for ride.Hovever, the story is completely different thing. As the film opens to explain the rules of the world through voice over, it shows on the screen, I knew I was in trouble. In the first five minutes after exposure to the exposure was thrown to the public at such a rapid pace that it is almost impossible to keep up. It also does not help that the dialogue is very awkward. With more reliant on narrative film, Upside Down leaves little time for the characters to develop as a result of making the story as a whole feeling contrived.For example, the interest of love that grows between the two protagonists of the film comes nothing. Unfortunately, actors Jim Sturgess and Kirsten Dunst have chemistry to sell their newfound love story as authentic. Any development of the story feels false and mechanics needed to feel natural. Upside down is a great idea it would be so much better than what has come to be. However, its obvious the filmmakers are more interested in focusing on the images that really tell a good story.
